Help me do my part to support people affected by Alzheimer’s & dementia and their caregivers!
On March 18th, 2017 I’ll be running the NYC United Airlines Half Marathon in honor of my Grandma, Lois Berch and to support others affected by Alzheimer’s and Dementia and their caregivers.
If you are lucky enough to know my “Bubba”, Lois you know that she is one of the kindest, loving, and giving people. I have idolized her growing up and am lucky to call her my grandma. She's a reminder of strength and resilience. It's difficult at times watching a loved one affected and struggling with this disease. It has altered her everyday life in the past couple of years. She no longer lives independently as her loss of memory has altered her ability to live on her own.
I decided to run this half marathon in honor of my grandmother and everyone else impacted by Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia. This will be my second Half Marathon, and I am humbled and excited to be running with a team whose mission is to “create, deliver, and promote comprehensive and compassionate care and support services for individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.” CaringKind provides free information, assistance and support for families like mine, who are coping with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, as well as for their caregivers and professionals
My Asks of You:
Send me the name(s) of your loved one(s) affected – I know many of you have also been directly impacted by this terrible disease. I would be honored to run for your loved ones as well. Please send me the name(s) of any loved ones who have suffered from Alzheimer’s, Dementia or similar diseases and I will be writing them all on my shirt come race day. Please e-mail me (firstname.lastname@example.org) or text me.
Fundraising – This is how I am making a difference. CaringKind serves more than 265,000 New Yorkers diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and their families. My fundraising efforts directly support a 24-hour helpline, social work services, support groups, education programs and much more. The fundraising helps keep the program free for anyone who needs the services. Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance for your generosity!
Send love, strength & energy – As I run on March 18th, not only will I be running in honor of Lois Berch, but as I am training and getting ready for race day, I need all the encouragement and help I can get! Please think of me on March 18th and if you’re in New York throw me a wave, or come meet me at the finish line! Lastly, and most importantly, please take a moment to think of all those suffering from this disease and have them and their caregivers in your thoughts and prayers.
