On March 18th I'll be running the 2018 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon as a member of team Athletes to End Alzheimer's, in memory of my Grandma Doris and to support the millions of others affected by Alzheimer’s.
Anyone who was lucky enough to know Doris Block knew her fearlessness, her strength and her compassion, all of which Alzheimer's robbed from her. She was a leader in the world youth movement and an advocate for civil rights. As a busy mother of four children, she earned a master's degree in her 40's and taught special education until her 70's. My grandmother suffered with Alzheimer's for nearly 10 years.
By participating as a member of team Athletes to End Alzheimer's, I’m committed to raising awareness and funds for CaringKind, The Heart of Alzheimer's Caregiving.
Currently, over 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's, and the number of Americans with Alzheimer’s will increase significantly over the next two decades, with expectations that the population of people age 65 and older will double.
My fundraising efforts directly support a 24-hour helpline, social work services, support groups, education programs and much more. The fundraising helps keep the program free for anyone who needs the services. Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated and will make an invaluable impact on CaringKind.
Thank you for considering donating.
